St. Mary's Cemetery to St. Mary's Parish, 65 Amelia St., Barrie. NEXT BUNDLE SUNDAY for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the last weekend in August. Donations of clothing and shoes are especially requested. ALL PARISHIONERS SHOULD BE REGISTERED and are asked to support the parish and the needs of the Church by using Sunday Offertory Envelopes and for making up for an absence during vacation. New parishioners are asked to register in the parish office. MONTHLY BUILDING FUND COLLECTION FOR AUGUST will be next weekend. KNOWING GOD BETTER is an archdiocesan Leadership Formation Program to help Catholics get more out of the faith by reflecting on Discipleship, Community and Evangelization. There are three years of sessions, offered during the day or in the evening. First Year Sessions will be offered at St. Patrick's Parish in Markham on six Thursdays beginning October 21 from 2:00-3:30. Anyone interested in preparing to take this kind of a leadership role in our parish could speak with Fr. Andrews. (There are also several evening sessions offered in the city.) ARCHBISHOP COLLINS REQUESTS US TO CONSIDER SPONSORING IRAQUI REFUGEES under the program called One Parish One Family with the help of the Office for Refugees. The Canadian government has opened a door to allow 2500 additional spots through private sponsorship programs. This would involve a financial commitment for one year as well as other forms of support into the community (helping to find living arrangements, assisting children register for school, finding healthcare, job searching and integrating into the community). Parishes can work together. Anyone interested in such an adventure please contact Fr. Andrews so we can assess what we might have to offer as a parish. There are hundreds of children each year in the Catholic Community who need to leave their family home and be placed in foster care because of illness, abandonment, neglect or abuse. The Society is looking for loving foster families to provide safe and nurturing homes for those who are vulnerable. HOST PROGRAM AT CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES OF YORK REGION is looking for men and women volunteers to befriend a new immigrant for only two hours a week. Memorial cards for the In Memorial Program for the Archdiocese of Toronto are available at funeral homes and in our Catholic Cemeteries Kiosk. PROVIDE A MEAL is a monthly opportunity for the people of St. Thomas the Apostle to bring a frozen shepherd's pie which will be picked up by the Good Shepherd Centre and provide a meal there for those in need. The empty containers are available for pick-up the first weekend every month and the donated pies are collected in our freezer the second weekend every month. Thanks to the many parishioners who have been participating for years to help meet the needs of the homeless and disadvantaged who live in the city.
